Last weekend, with the help of Accor Hotels Australia and their #WelcomeTraveller campaign, I was treated to a ‘stay-cation’ for a weekend of eating, tennis and exploring the wonders of downtown Melbourne.
The weekend started with a fantastic dinner at No. 35 Restaurant at the Sofitel on the Paris end of Collins Street. 35 floors up, the views over the city, the bay, Finders Street Station and Federation Square are incredible. And, at this time of year, the dinner service is perfectly paced to take in the breathtaking transition from sunset to the spectacular city lights of Melbourne at night.
The next morning breakfast in the city was at Rustica Canteen. I stuck to the french toast, but was seriously tempted by their large array of donuts, cakes and breads.
Then, Saturday night was tennis time. Accor Hotels, being an official partner of the Australian Open, had great seats for the Women’s final, featuring Accor sponsored superstar Serena Williams.
Melbourne has recently expanded its tram and train network into the wee small hours of the night over the weekend, so its ideal for wandering around. In my case, after the tennis, it was Swanston Street for some late night Korean fried chicken at Sam Sam.
Would highly recommend a weekend away in the city for those who don’t live there. Getting out of the house, exploring the CBD outside of the Monday to Friday rat race, was a fantastic break and a great sample of why Melbourne is one of the best places in the world to live.
