The Other Art Fair returns to Melbourne from 2-5 May for a blockbuster edition with over 120 hand chosen emerging Australian and international artists.

Highlights include launch of Upcycle Art in Melbourne, live tattooing and Through the Looking Glass immersive art experience.

With 120 artists making it the biggest Melbourne fair yet, The Other Art Fair Melbourne will return from 2-5 May 2019 to The Facility in Kensington. A dynamic four-day public program will accompany The Other Art Fair Melbourne and includes live tattooing, workshops, performance art, live music, activities for kids and art tours by Saatchi Art’s team of curators.

Presented by Saatchi Art, The Other Art Fair is a leading international art fair championing emerging and independent artists, providing visitors with the unique opportunity to discover and buy contemporary art direct from artists.

Sun Haas has a knack for choosing a set of unusual colours to place next to one another in her bold abstract works. Her practice includes drawing, painting and sculpting, and she is drawn to anything with texture and colour.

The Artists

Emma Itzstein is a self-represented visual artist born in Perth and based in Geelong. Her work combines abstract expressionism along with playful botanical representations to create striking and bold pieces.

Jon Setter is a photographer who was born in Detroit, Michigan, and is currently based in Sydney, Australia. He received a B.A. from the College for Creative Studies in Media Arts and is currently pursuing a Master of Fine Arts from the National Art School. His photography primarily focuses on urban spaces and architecture. Jon wanders through cities looking to document a perspective that is normally not visualized.

Renee Tsironis is a floral artist based in Melbourne. Fascinated by the significance attached to flowers, Renee explores their ability to connect a person with a particular moment, place or person. Through the use of macro photography, Renee explore’s the juxtaposition between flowers’ organic form and the structure they are confined within Greener Future.

Upcycle Art will feature distinguished Australian contemporary artists giving new life to existing artworks owned by the public at The Other Art Fair Melbourne. From their own art to an unloved old painting or print, visitors are encouraged to bring an artwork to be reborn by a great creative talent for $100.

Other Attractions

Hand Poked Tattoos – a love of graffiti and interest in making marks on places outside of a gallery led artist Lily Gloria to tattooing. Lily will take up residence at The Other Art Fair Melbourne, using a tiny needle to get the intricate dot work unique to her style of tattoos.

Essence of Cloud glass blowing – Join theatrical artist Mark Eliott as he embodies alias Dr Eliott-McFoggarty on his exploration of the magic of clouds. Visitors will see an apothecary apparatus for the extraction of ‘cloud essence’ and will get to participate in the blowing of a miniature glass cloud.

Paper embroidery and modern calligraphy workshops – Hosted by social media sensation Han Cao , visitors will be able to transform their own vintage photographs using a needle, colourful thread, beads and other embellishments, or learn the art of brush lettering in a live setting.

Kids are welcome visitors to the fair, with free entry to children under 16 and a Kids Create area where they can unleash their artistic flair and participate in creative art activities and crafty challenges suitable for all ages.

Throughout the fair, Saluministi will be serving up their popular Italian snacks while The Other Art Fair bar will be pouring beers and wines.
