I visited St. Hotel on the busy Fitzroy Street in St Kilda to try the new summer cuisine by head chef Sean Judd. The dining room is on the ground floor next to the public bar, although its separated by a wall so feels like its own private space.
The first thing that will strike you about the newly refurbished space is the huge atrium with glass ceiling and chopstick art installation.
The menu is filled with very authentic thai flavours, with a modern and local influence. You can either order a larger main meal or a range of small plates to share with friends.
My favourite dishes were the barbecued sweetcorn ($6) with salted coconut cream, chilli and peanuts, and the pulled pork bao ($6.50).
And, dessert! The Chinese doughnuts ($12) with coconut icecream and pandan fudge sauce is a winner.
Very easy tram access from the city and at the western end of the very trendy and vibrant Fitzroy Street with a 5 minute walk to St Kilda beach. I’m calling it, this is going to be the place to be this summer and I will definitely be back to enjoy the beach, beers and bao.
