Visit Ballarat, is bringing the best of region to Melbourne’s CBD with the Made of Ballarat Pop-Up Shop. Open from 29 March until 24 April, the store will boast an eclectic collection of locally made products, tastings and Meet the Maker events.
In partnership with the Victorian Government, the Made of Ballarat Pop-Up Shop will transcend the everyday shopfront on Little Collins Street into a creative hub. Inspired by the workshops and studios of Ballarat’s makers and artisans, the space is intended to stimulate the senses and give people a taste of what they can expect when they visit Ballarat. The Pop-Up Shop’s Meet the Maker series gives guests the opportunity to meet local artisans and learn about their craft; offer tastings from Kilderkin Gin, Latta Wines, Salt Kitchen Charcuterie and more; and host Q&A sessions with Ballarat artisans from businesses such Backyard Beekeeping and Green Woodsmith. A full list of Made of Ballarat Pop-Up Shop events will follow.
In a bid to entice more Melburnians to visit and explore the region, a 90 minute drive north-west of central Melbourne, the Pop-Up Shop is the second phase of Made of Ballarat, the region’s new artisan-focused destination campaign.
Visit Ballarat CEO, Noel Dempsey, explains that Made of Ballarat “celebrates Ballarat’s new generation of creators, makers and artisans – those who are challenging the status quo and inspiring positive change while staying true to the rich cultural history that Ballarat is indeed made from”. He continues, “Made of Ballarat is a campaign that demonstrates to those living in Melbourne, and beyond, that there is an undercurrent of imagination that pervades our region. By extending the campaign to this Pop-Up Shop, we are bringing a taste of Ballarat to Melbourne, providing a small sample of what’s waiting to be discovered here. We know that many Melburnians have a preconceived idea of Ballarat, and we hope to make them stop, reconsider and walk away with a more accurate perception of what the city has to offer.”
