Cinema at the G

Following a successful debut season, Cinema at the ’G, presented by Bank of Melbourne will return to the MCG this summer, transforming the iconic sporting venue into a spectacular open air cinema.

On Friday 24 and Saturday 25 February, Melburnians will be able to sit back and relax on the hallowed MCG turf while watching a movie on the giant scoreboard screen.

Opening night features the yet-to-be-released Lion, which, starring Nicole Kidman and Dev Patel, has been nominated for four Golden Globes. The Tom Hanks blockbuster, Sully, will screen on Saturday night.

Attendees can bring blankets, pillows and snacks to create their own picnic on the grass, or enjoy a range of cinema fare from the MCG onsite caterers.

Proceeds from the event will go to the Bank of Melbourne Neighbourhood Fund, which supports local charities and programs that deliver sustainable benefits to Victorian communities in need.

Melbourne Cricket Club CEO Stephen Gough said the club was looking forward to hosting the exclusive cinema event for a second year, in partnership with Bank of Melbourne.

“The MCG holds a special place in the heart of Melburnians, so it is with great pleasure that we are once again opening up the ground for a very different summer spectator event than what is usually on show.

“We had a fantastic response from patrons who attended Cinema at the ‘G with family and friends in our first year, and encourage everyone to book now to secure their place on the turf.”

Bank of Melbourne Chief Executive Scott Tanner said, “Cinema at the ‘G was a hit this year, and we’re thrilled to continue the tradition next February. Enjoying a night at the movies while sitting on the hallowed turf with a picnic is a perfect summer night in the world’s most liveable city.”

Tickets are capped at 2000 per session. A limited number of VIP tickets sold out within minutes, so those interested in attending are encouraged to book early to secure their spot.
